- Lalita Prasida Sripada Srisai, a 13-year-old student from Koraput, Odisha wins ‘Community Impact Award’ at the prestigious Google Science Fair in California.
- She received 10, 000 USD as the prize money. She will also get the support from Google for one year in order to build her project successfully.
- She developed a low cost bio-absorbent based water purifier which functions mainly on waste corn cobs.
- Corn cobs have high mechanical strength, rigidity and also porosity. So the Corn cobs can absorb the contaminants like oxides of salts, detergent, oil, grease suspended particles, coloured dyes etc.,
- By using this bio-absorbent based water purifier, 70-80% of contaminants will be separated from the waste water.
