Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has issued guidelines as Mid-Day Meal Rules, 2015 under the National Food Security Act 2013 (NFSA, 2013).(Union HRD minister – Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani)
According to provisions mid-day meals provided to students at schools will be tested every month by certified government food research laboratories or any other laboratory recognised by law to ensure nutritional standards and quality.
AS PER RULES
- Children in the age group of 6-14 and are studying from classes I to VIII will be provided with free of charge nutritious cooked meal on all regular days.
- Cooking of meal with hygienic facilities is mandate for every school.
- School management committees should keep a thorough check of the implementation of the meal scheme, quality of the food served and cleanliness of the cooking place.
- Meal should meet the nutritional standards of 450 calories and 12 gm of protein for primary classes and 700 calories and 20 gm of protein for upper primary classes.
- Available funds with schools should be utilized further under this scheme.
