China’s Tianhe-2 marked as world’s powerful supercomputer

46th edition of the Biannual Top500 list of supercomputers has crowned theChina’s Tianhe-2 supercomputer as the world’s most powerful system for the sixth consecutive time. It has held the title since June 2013.
  • Tianhe-2 or Milky Way 2 is capable of performing 33.86 quadrillion calculations in one second, which is almost twice the speed of the second most powerful supercomputer on the list – the US energy department’s Titan
  • Tianhe-2 was developed by China’s National University of Defence Technology and deployed at the National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou.
