November 14th, birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru the first prime minister of India is celebrated as Children’s Day. Bal Diwas was first celebrated in 1964 after the death of Pandit Nehru
Objective : To increase the awareness towards the rights, care and education of children
- V K Krishna Menon proposed the idea of Universal Children’s Day to the UN General Assembly and they accepted this proposal in October.
About Jawaharlal Nehru(14 November 1889 – 27 May 1964) :
- Jawaharlal Nehru was thefirst Prime Minister of India and a central figure in Indian politics before and after independence.
- He emerged as the paramount leader of theIndian independence movement under the tutelage of Mahatma Gandhi and ruled India from its establishment as an independent nation in 1947 until his death in 1964.
- President of India presents National Child Awardson the occasion of Children’s Day.
